The Balancing Act

At EPIC, you see and hear our “Work Hard. Have Fun.” motto nearly every day, but that mission in itself is a delicate balance. By loving what we do and working hard at it, we have a blast. But we’re more than just EPIC workers. We’re parents and spouses and recently retired professional wrestlers. So how do we balance it all? We asked some of our employees to explain how they achieve their version of the elusive “work-life balance,” and here’s what they said:

“I try to make sure anytime between arriving home from work and before the kids’ bedtime is family time: outside playing, game time, etc.”

“It all starts with creating personal relationships with people at the office. You’ll find the more you invest in other people, the more they invest in you. And make sure the treat table is stocked.”

“Turn your cons into pros. My two-hour commute to and from work has turned into the ideal time for me to call friends and family (hands-free, of course), catch up on podcasts or just to simply enjoy the quiet time.”

“My mind is always racing, especially on my commute to and from work. In order for me to slow down and make sense of it all, I like to journal as often as I can. It can be for only 10 minutes any time of day; I just like to connect the pen to the page and get my thoughts out, stream-of-consciousness style. The words end up pouring out and I feel a sense of peace seeing my ideas come to life.”

“I try to be ‘in the moment,’ whatever I’m doing. If I’m at work, I work as hard and as well as I can. If I’m at home, I focus on being there and not at work. And if I’m out having fun, be it EPIC fun or family/friend fun, I focus on that just as completely.
